Throughout time, many have
participated in this thing called
"fashion" though some are notice-
ably better at it than others.
Fashion reminds us that we are
social beings by nature because
isn't it funny how it manifests
most when we are out and
about interacting with others.
If time represents the movement
of life, then fashion is a reflection
of our progress. And before very
long, someone will come along
and change the rules again.
~ Janet Reed

Provides a fun way to learn about history!

The Evolution of Fashion is a comprehensive study of the fashionable modes of dress that were prevalent during particular periods in history. When styles of clothes, colors, fabrics, silhouettes, accessories, and hairstyles are linked with a time era or decade, all of a sudden, it's a fun way to learn about history.

Beginning with the old-world culture of the Renaissance period, you are moved through time to the modern world of the present. Through stories of people and events, you will develop an understanding for historical process and you'll begin to view the things in today's environment a little differently, too.

In fact, it won't take you very long at all to see that cultural trends and patterns are the result of a series of events and developments. Aside from the dramatic, immediate change prompted by a cataclysmic incident, most social and cultural change is a gradual process by which one small event leads to another to another and then to another. All the while, we are being influenced by them and this includes the designers throughout history who convincingly persuaded an entire society to change their style of dress.

Somehow we went from the carefree Roaring 20's to the conservative 1950's to the rebelliousness of the late 60's. You will learn "what" caused the changes in the social environment that redirected fashion. You'll also learn about the music people listened to, the things they did for fun, and how the economy and political issues important during their day affected their outlook on life.

Amidst history's stories, there are both happinesses and sadnesses for there were victories and achievements as well as mistakes and failures. Above all, history is full of lessons about life and it always teaches us more than we originally intended to find out.
